Urban furniture, a functional art

When visiting any urban area in the world we can see the enormous benefits of concrete, applied both in buildings and in pieces for the community, which are part of the city itself. An example of what has been said takes place in Alicante, Spain, where Mireya Duart has overflowed her passion for design in the creation of multifunctional urban pieces made of precast concrete and which are characterized by their great aesthetic and functional appeal.

Precast concrete benches

Precast concrete is not only used to construct buildings of great architectural plasticity, it is also used to create urban furniture in diverse and functional ways. For this, it is necessary to manufacture suitable molds that precisely adapt to the proposed designs.

"Concrete is a very noble material"

"It allows you to design organic forms inspired by nature and in this sense, concrete adapts to the final result of what you want to build, whether it is an architectural building, or manufacturing an industrial design." In recent years I have worked in the design of urban furniture for the firm Saura SL –located in Alicante, Spain–, a company that has been manufacturing concrete urban furniture for several years. Each piece is a fusion of design and art, "it's like designing a concrete sculpture." Among the most successful pieces we find different types of benches, planters, drinking fountains, bins, bollards, modular lattices and street lamps for lighting gardens. All of them have been installed in different squares, leisure areas, promenades, urbanizations, parks and other public recreation spaces in Spain.

"In the creation and materialization of each piece, the first thing is to know the needs of the client in order to use creativity and achieve emotion with the final result"
